Relocating with a Neurodivergent Child? Here’s How I Can Help Make the Transition Seamless

“Are there services out there, and can you help us decide where to live in relation to services and schools?” the potential client asked me.

Four years earlier, I had been in their shoes. When my family relocated from San Diego to North Atlanta, I dove headfirst into research. Although at the time my 18 month old son wasn’t diagnosed he had been receiving occupational therapy and behavioral therapy to serve as functional language support from the Regional Center in California. So, I knew on some level there needed to be support available for him. I created a spreadsheet packed with every detail imaginable: government services, schools, therapy providers, and more. I mapped out the best routes, explored neighborhoods, and studied the cities of Roswell, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, and Milton with the precision of a local. By the time we arrived, I knew more about North Fulton area than many people who had lived here for years.

It was an overwhelming process, but having all that information laid out in one place made our transition so much smoother. That experience taught me the importance of preparation and the value of having someone guide you through the process.

So, when this potential client asked me if I could help, I didn’t hesitate. Not only could I provide professional support—I had lived it. I understood the unique challenges of relocating as a family with specific needs, especially when navigating neurodiversity.

That conversation sparked an idea: Why not make relocation support a part of my business? I decided to focus on helping families move to North Fulton, leveraging both my expertise and my personal experience. While my long-term vision includes supporting families across Georgia, I’m starting local, with the community I know best.

Relocating isn’t just about finding a house—it’s about building a life. My goal is to make that journey easier for families, helping them find not just the right home but the right services, schools, and community for their needs.

Why Relocation Support Matters for Families of Neurodivergent Children

When relocating, typical concerns like finding the right school or settling into a new community can be even more complex for families with neurodivergent children. Parents often ask:

  • Where can I find neurodiversity-affirming schools and inclusive programs?

  • How do I locate the best therapists, including speech, occupational, or ABA services?

  • What neighborhoods offer a supportive community for families like mine?

  • Are there resources to help my child adjust emotionally to the move?

The truth is, every decision in a relocation can impact your child’s comfort, growth, and happiness. That’s why having the right guide—someone who understands both the challenges and solutions—can make all the difference.
